ORLANDO, Fla. - The La Salle University men's tennis team will take on No. 6 seed Fordham in the opening round of the 2021 Atlantic 10 Championship, it was announced by the league on Tuesday. The Explorers are seeded 11th and will square off against the Rams on Thursday, April 29 at 12:00 p.m.
ABOUT THE EXPLORERS
- The winner of the match on Thursday will take on third-seeded Richmond in the quarterfinals on Friday, April 30 at 12:00 p.m.
- La Salle and Fordham faced one another in the regular season, with the Rams taking a 6-1 decision in the Bronx, N.Y. on April 10.
- In that road match, the Explorers received a sterling performance from senior Rogelio Gonzalez in a victory at No. 1 singles.
- Junior Nassim Fenjiro also performed well, nearly taking his match at No. 2 singles before falling in an epic 17-15Â third-set super-tiebreak.
- At No. 5, sophomore Brandon Caban won the first set of his match against Lutwin de Macar, and freshman Dylan Tull was up 2-0 in the first set of his match at No. 6 before suffering an injury.
- On the season, junior Nassim Fenjiro is 8-3 in singles action, with two of those losses coming in three sets.
- Gonzalez was named Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week earlier this season, becoming the first Explorer to win the award in program history.
ABOUT FORDHAM
- The Rams are 5-4 on the year, and most recently defeated Queens College, 7-0, in their regular-season finale.
- Fabian Mauritzson is the No. 1 singles player for Fordham and has three wins at the top spot.
- At No. 3, Alex Makatsaria has the best record of any individual with a 7-2 overall mark.
