Getting To Know: Women's Tennis' Leah Garrison

April 5, 2011

PHILADELPHIA - Today GoExplorers.com features women’s tennis player Leah Garrison.  The freshman from Lanham, Md. has stepped into the No. 3 singles position, recently picking up a win in La Salle’s match against Villanova.  Garrison also teams up with Kiara Smith at No. 1 singles.

1. What has been your favorite moment as a La Salle student-athlete?
My favorite movement thus far at La Salle was clinching the 4-3 victory over Philly U during our fall season.

2. When did you start playing tennis?
I started playing tennis when I was nine years old.  I used to be a basketball player, and originally just wanted to try tennis as something fun to do.

3. If you could play doubles with anyone person, who would it be and why?
It would definitely be Justine Henin, because she’s my favorite tennis player, and I try to model my game after hers.

4. What do you like best about La Salle?
The sense of community and family environment here at La Salle is what I like the best.

5. What do you like to do in your spare time?
In my spare time, I listen to music and try to catch up on as much sleep as I can.

6. What are your career aspirations?
In the future I would like to be a sports agent.

7.  What’s on your iPod right now?
I have a lot of music, but my most recently played consists of Gucci Mane’s newest album, mixtapes from the Maybach Music Group, and a 90s R&B mix.

8. Who do you look up to/inspires you? Why?
My family is my inspiration and motivation in everything that I do because they are firsthand examples of what sacrifice and handwork can get you.

9. Favorite away match memory?
When we played Loyola a few weeks ago, we were missing two players, but people stepped up to the plate. We lost, but the effort from my teammates was definitely there.

10. What is the best advice you have ever received?
When you choose to seek revenge, you’re even with your enemy, but when you pass over the opportunity, you establish yourself as superior.
