PHILADELPHIA - De'Sean Fennell, Dale Fetterman, Robert Kasinow, Thomas MacLeod and Andrew O'Connell will join the men's tennis team for the 2011-2012 season, as announced by head coach Ed Colfer today.
"These five gentlemen will bring a great deal of talent to our team and should be instrumental in helping to achieve our goals," Colfer said.
Fennell, a local product from Roman Catholic High School, went undefeated in high school play, amassing a 61-0 record at No. 1 singles and losing just three sets. He helped the Cahillites reach the Philadelphia Catholic League Championship three times, winning the Catholic League MVP award three times as well. A two-time PIAA District 12 Class AAA singles champion, Fennell was recently ranked No. 14 in the USTA Middle States 18-and-younger Division.
Fetterman played two years of varsity tennis at Beacon High School in New York City followed by two years of varsity tennis at RJ Reynolds High School in North Carolina, where he helped his squad to undefeated seasons that cumulated in winning the 4-A High School State Championships in 2010 and 2011. Fetterman also won the 4-A High School doubles championship in 2010.
Kasinow will join the Explorers from Wall High School in New Jersey. A four-year varsity player, Kasinow compiled a 15-3 record as a junior and went 11-3 as a senior at No. 1 singles. A National Honors Society member, Kasinow was a three-time qualifier for the New Jersey State High School Singles Tournament and helped his team to a tie for first in the NJ Shore Conference C Central Division in 2011.
MacLeod has qualified for the Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association State Championships all four years while playing for St. Marks High School. He reached the semifinals at No. 1 doubles during his sophomore campaign. Playing his senior season at No. 1 singles, he advanced to the second round of the 2011 DIAA Championships.
O'Connell comes to La Salle after playing three years of varsity tennis at Patchogue-Medford High School in New York. A team captain, team MVP and sportsmanship award winner, he was named All-County during his senior season. O'Connell has been ranked No. 4 in the USTA Long Island Boys 18-and-younger Division.
