PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle women's cross country team runs at the Wisconsin Adidas Invitational on Friday, in its final tune-up before the Atlantic 10 Championships on October 27.
The women's field sports 49 competing squads, over 25 of which are nationally ranked in the top 40. The 6K race is set for a noon start at the
Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course.
La Salle is the only A-10 school represented in the field in its first-ever appearance at the event.
The Explorer women enter the weekend ranked sixth in the most recent USTFCCCA Mid-Atlantic Regional Poll, the most highly rated A-10 school in the ranking. Senior
Meghan McGlinchey has run with her hair on fire this season, winning all three meets in which she has competed. Most recently, McGlinchey took home the gold at the Mason Invitational, winning the race by an astounding 1:38 en route to being named “A-10 Women's Cross Country Performer of the Week” for October 2. Her time
paced La Salle to a team meet victory at the event.
Head coach Dan Ireland has implored his runners to stick to the game plan and let the results take care of themselves.
“We want to be patiently aggressive,” Ireland said. "Put ourselves in the race early but not be out to fast that we fade over the last quarter of the race.
“Our goal is to run a very strong competitive race," he added. "If we do that where we finish is irrelevant.”
