Box Score PHILADELPHIA – La Salle women's soccer defeated visiting George Washington, 1-0, with a goal from sophomore Gabby Carbone in the 73
rd minute straight from a corner kick. With the win the Explorers remain undefeated in the Atlantic 10 conference and improve to 11-3-0 on the season.
Despite outshooting the Colonials 18-2 in the first half, the teams remained tied, 0-0, going into the intermission. The Explorers continued their relentless attack, forcing George Washington goalkeeper Nicole Fasano to make 10 saves in the match.
“I thought we looked very dangerous in the attack in the first half,” said head coach
Paul Royal. “It was unfortunate not to score because I felt we deserved at least one. It just goes to show you how competitive every conference game is.”
La Salle's sixth and final corner kick of the game proved to be the break the offense needed as Carbone sent a well struck ball into the penalty box that deflected off Fasano and found its way into the net.
With the win, junior goalkeeper Gabby Pakhtigian earns her 11
th win and sixth shut out of the season, placing her second and third in the all-time career record book, respectively.
“Our focus immediately shifts towards a very talented and well-coached Charlotte team,” said Royal. “I'm confident our girls will be ready for our senior day.”
Senior day festivities will begin at approximately 12:45 on Sunday, October 14, prior to the kick off of La Salle's 1 p.m. match up against conference foe Charlotte (10-3-1, 5-0 A-10).
