Ebonee Jones exploded for a career-best 22 points and
Brittany Wilson added 22 of her own as the La Salle women's basketball squad put up a convincing 70-46 win at Central Connecticut State on Wednesday evening.
The 22 points bested Jones' previous career high of 20, set at Maryland on Dec. 28, 2010. She accomplished the feat on 7-for-11 shooting from the floor, including 7-of-8 at the free throw line. Jones lit up the box score, also adding five rebounds, four assists, two blocks and two steals for the Explorers (2-9).
Wilson's 22 points marks the eighth 20+ point game for the senior this season. She went 8-of-14 from the floor, including 3-of-6 from three-point range.
The Explorers' 70 points came against a CCSU (4-3) squad that had given up just 73 combined points in its last three games, limiting prior opponents to 41 and 32, respectively. The Explorers shot a season-high 44.6 percent for the game, including 53.3 percent in the first half, and recorded 17 assists on 25 field goals.
The squad limited the Blue Devils to just 23.9 percent for the game, and just 20.7 percent (6-of-29) in the second half.
The Explorers capitalized on 27 Blue Devil turnovers, converting those into 29 points. In addition to forcing 27 miscues, the Blue & Gold recorded 11 blocked shots thanks to three from
Karynda DuPree and two each from Jones,
Jordan Mosley and
Indigo Dickens.
La Salle jumped out to a 21-10 lead about halfway through the first period, capped by a Wilson three-pointer at 11:33. The Explorers never relinquished their double-digit lead after that, pushing the margin to as many as 26 late in the second half.
The Explorers continue their Connecticut roadtrip with a contest at Fairfield on Saturday (12/22) at 2 p.m.
