Women's Basketball Celebrates Senior Day on Saturday Against Temple

PHILADELPHIA - Seniors Nadia Duncan and Michele McCaughern will be playing in their final home game as Explorers on Saturday as La Salle hosts Temple in the regular season finale of 2011-12 at 1 p.m. in Tom Gola Arena.

Duncan and McCaughern will be honored in a ceremony prior to the game, at approximately 12:45 p.m.

La Salle and Temple will meet on the hardwood for the 42nd time in a series that dates back to 1973. The Owls hold a slim 21-20 advantage all-time, but have won the last 13.

Scouting La Salle (13-15, 7-6 Atlantic 10)...

The Explorers are coming off of a convincing win at George Washington on Wednesday night. Despite falling behind 8-2 early, the squad stormed back with a 16-0 run spanning nearly seven minutes midway through the first half and cruised to the 69-47 win. Brittany Wilson netted a game-best 23 points in the win, along with a game-high-tying eight rebounds.

Wilson is now averaging a team-best 14.0 ppg and 15.5 in league play, which puts her in a third place tie in the Atlantic 10 in conference scoring. Alexis Scott adds 12.3 points per contest.

Ruvanna Campbell recorded two blocks at GW to up her total to 42, and she needs just three more this season to put her in a tie for third place on the all-time single-season list with Linda French (1986-87). Campbell continues to average 8.0 rebounds per game, which is fifth in the Atlantic 10, and 7.3 rpg in league games to be tied for seventh.

Scouting Temple (19-8, 12-1 Atlantic 10)...

The Owls enter Saturday's contest as the winners of 12 straight, with their last and only Atlantic 10 loss coming at the hands of #19 St. Bonaventure on Jan. 11. Reigning USBWA National Player of the Week, Atlantic 10 Player of the Week and Big 5 Player of the Week Shey Peddy scored 31 points as the Owls knocked off Saint Joseph's 75-65 on Wednesday night. Prior to that, they trounced Rhode Island 84-41.

Peddy and Kristen McCarthy both average double figures with Peddy averaging a league second-best 17.1 ppg and a league-best 19.2 ppg in Atlantic 10 games. McCarthy adds13.6.

Victoria Macaulay chips in 9.3 while pulling down a team-best 7.4 rebounds per game. She is also the squad's top shot blocker with 44 on the season, averaging a league second-best 1.8 rejections per game.

Saturday marks the regular season finale. The Explorers await their Atlantic 10 Championship placement upon the conclusion on Sunday's games around the league. The 2012 Buick Atlantic 10 Championship opens up at St. Joe's Hagan Arena on Friday, March 2. The title game is slated for 5 p.m. on Monday, March 5.
