PHILADELPHIA - The women's tennis team picked up its first win of the spring season by defeating Holy Family 4-3 on Wednesday afternoon on the La Salle Tennis Courts.
 
The Explorers started out the afternoon by winning the doubles point.  Playing without a third doubles team, it was critical that La Salle win at the No.1 and No. 2 positions. 
 
Junior Kiara Smith and freshman Celesta Smith handled Holy Family's Jin Querubin and Juliana Victoria at the No. 1 position, winning 8-4.
 
At No. 2 doubles, Sophomore Chloe Trave and junior Jenna Manzione took an early lead and had a chance to win, but the Tigers' came back to tie the match at 8-all.  The momentum shifted in the tiebreaker, with the Trave and Manzione sweeping in 7-0.
 
In the singles competition, Celesta Smith notched a 6-3, 6-4 victory at No. 2.  Trave won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 4 singles, while Manzione came out on top 6-2, 6-3 in the No. 5 singles competition.  
 
The Explorers face Saint Joseph's on Thursday and then travel to Rhode Island on Sunday.
