STATESBORO, Ga.
- Two early hits in the nightcap of a doubleheader were not enough as the La Salle softball team fell to Georgia Southern twice on Monday afternoon at Eagle Field.

The Eagles (10-6) won the first game 6-0 and the second game 8-0 in six innings.

Breanna DiTommaso drew a one-out walk in the top of the first inning of the second game. Megan Hodgson followed up with a single that dropped in at right field, but DiTommaso was caught trying to take third on the play for the inning's second out. Kristin Travers followed up with a single through the left side to put runners at first and second, but the Eagles made the third out on an Alicia Aughton line drive to second base to end the Explorer threat.

Georgia Southern got the winning run in the bottom of the frame, scoring on an illegal pitch. The Eagles scattered runs in three more innings, with a Kaitlyn Johnson RBI double in the bottom of the sixth scoring the eighth run to end the game.

Travers went the distance in the circle, giving up eight runs on 11 hits and striking out one. Three different Eagles saw time in the circle, with Marla Thompson pitching the middle two innings and earning the win.

The first game was all Georgia Southern, as the Explorers could not solve Eagle ace Sarah Purvis. Purvis recorded 16 strikeouts in pitching her first career no-hitter. The Eagles got two runs in the bottom of the first and added four more across three innings. The Explorers got one baserunner on as DiTommaso reached on a Purvis fielding error.

Aughton went the distance for the Explorers, giving up six runs on eight hits, striking out three and walking two.

The Explorers (0-6) return to action on Thursday when they travel to Coastal Carolina for a single game at 6:30 p.m. They stay in Myrtle Beach for Coastal's Chanticleer Showdown starting on Friday.
