MASON, Ohio – The men's tennis team ended its 2011-12 season with a 5-0 loss to #5 George Washington in the first round of the 2012 Atlantic 10 Men's Tennis Championship at the Lindler Family Tennis Center.
The #12 seeded Explorers lost at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to give up the doubles point.
In the singles competition, freshman
De'Sean Fennell was forced to retire at the No. 1 spot. Sophomore
Chas Berenato lost 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles.
Freshman
Dale Fetterman fell 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 singles at the same time that freshman
Robert Kasinow lost 6-1, 6-0 in No. 6 singles to end the match.
Junior
Trevor Donovan was still on the court in a tight 4-3 first set with Leo Lapentti. Sophomore
Joseph LaBate was still playing after losing his first set 6-1 and trailing 3-2 in the second set.
Defending A-10 champion George Washington will face #4 Temple, which received a first-round bye, later this afternoon.
