ANNAPOLIS, Md. - La Salle sophomore
Mike Johnson fought through miserable conditions to shoot a 75 on Sunday and finish fifth at the Navy Invitational. After a 74 on Saturday, Johnson carded a four-over score in the cold, wind and rain to record the fifth best score of the round in the field of 111 players at the Naval Academy Golf Course.
As a team, the Explorers shot 320 on Sunday to finish 12
th with a two-day score of 300-320=620 (+52).
Senior
Ed Carnes added a 78 in round two to finish in a tie for 38
th with a 77-78=155 (+13). Classmate
Randy Kurzinsky had a 72-86=158 (+16) to tie for 62
nd, while sophomore
Tyler Fewell recorded a 77-84=161 (+19) to tie for 77
th.
Freshman
Greg Goodreds rounded out the La Salle lineup with an 83-83=166 (+26) and tied for 99
th.
Penn won the event with a 294-299=593 (+25) by four strokes over George Washington. Columbia (606), Navy (607) and Villanova (609) rounded out the top five.
The Quakers' Max Marsico shot a 73-70=143 (+1) to capture medalist honors by one stroke over GW's Martin Liu.
The Explorers have one more tune-up before next weekend's Atlantic 10 Championship on Monday at the Saint Peter's Invitational.
