PHILADELPHIA - La Salle softball standout
Alicia Aughton added to her resume, as she was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team and the College Sports Madness Second Team All-Conference, announced on Wednesday morning.
The rookie pitcher led the staff with a 3.42 ERA and was credited with all nine wins on the season. She struck out 99 batters in 196.1 innings pitched and hurled 25 complete games in 28 starts along with two shutouts. Aughton struck out a season-best nine batters against St. Bonaventure, recorded seven K's against Saint Louis and added a pair of six-strikeout performances against Saint Joseph's and Monmouth.
Early in the season, Aughton hurled a complete game two-hitter in a 1-0 upset of Coastal Carolina, and was awarded the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week honor.. She then came home to Philadelphia to pitch two complete game wins in a doubleheader sweep of Monmouth, allowing just one earned run over 14 innings, and followed up with a two-hit 1-0 performance over Bucknell the following day for the third straight Explorer win.
Aughton picked up her first Atlantic 10 win at Dayton, scattering just four hits in the 3-1 win. She earned both wins in the Explorers' sweep of Rhode Island and yielded just two earned runs to league leader UMass in the season finale.
Aughton was tough defensively, committing just two errors in 38 pitching appearances for a team-best fielding percentage of .984.
Aughton was dangerous at the plate as well, belting out four home runs and tying for the team high with 18 RBI as she occupied the four-spot in the lineup for the majority of the season. She finished with a .232 average, third on the team, and was second on the team with a .368 slugging percentage. Aughton put together a six-game hitting streak spanning the six games at the Coastal Carolina Tournament, including a 3-for-4 performance against Hampton. In the sweep of Monmouth, she went 2-for-4 with three RBI, including a two-run home run, in the first game. In the Explorers' 6-3 win over Rhode Island, Aughton batted 2-for-4 with a double and season-best four RBI. In total, she recorded seven multi-hit games.
In addition to her Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week honor, Aughton was named to the USC Upstate All-Tournament Team in the season-opening tournament.
