CHERRY HILLS VILLAGE, Colo.
- La Salle junior Mike Johnson will begin play in the 112th Annual U.S. Amateur Championship on Monday at Cherry Hills Country Club outside of Denver. He tees off on Monday at 12:25 PM (2:25 EDT) on the Cherry Hills course and on Tuesday he will play the Common Ground course at 7:10 AM (9:10 ET).

Live statistics can be found here

The first two days of the Amateur Championship are stroke play, 18 holes each day, with the top 64 scores advancing to match play, which begins on Wednesday. TV coverage also begins on Wednesday on the Golf Channel and continues through the weekend on NBC.

Johnson shot a 68-73=141 (-1) on July 18 at Applebrook and Waynesborough Country Clubs to qualify. He finished fifth in the 143-player field and the top six players advanced.

"It feels great to qualify for the Amateur," Johnson said. "I've been playing solid this summer and this is the biggest thrill so far. I'm really excited to make the trip out to Colorado."

Previous winners of the US Amateur include Bobby Jones, Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Phil Mickelson, and Tiger Woods.
Johnson finished seventh at the Atlantic 10 Championship this spring as a sophomore, with a 71-71=142 (-2). It tied the best finish by an Explorer at A-10s and was the lowest 18 and 36 hole scores by a La Salle golfer at the conference championship.

His latest outing was at the Golf Association of Philadelphia's Patterson Cup, where he finished tied for sixth with a two-under 69. Johnson is tied for 12th in the GAP Player of the Year standings.

GoExplorers.tv will have a video preview of Johnson's summer on Monday.
