Explorer Women's Soccer Set to Debut at West Virginia

PHILADELPHIA - La Salle women's soccer travels to West Virginia, ranked No. 20 according to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) preseason poll, to open its 2012 campaign on Friday, August 17.

The Explorers, who were predicted to finish third in the Atlantic 10 according to the preseason coaches' poll, return two 2011 NSCAA All-Americans in junior Renee Washington and sophomore Kelsey Haycook alongside a mass of young, outstanding players.

“Teams just can't shut down Kelsey and Renee anymore,” said head coach Paul Royal. “We have six or seven other players that can really make their mark in this league.”

Beating a ranked opponent is a familiar feat for the Explorers who upended conference foe and then-ranked No. 15 Dayton last season.

The Explorers, who haven't lost a regular season game since October 29, 2010, are coming off a record-breaking season in which the squad earned an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament.
