Box Score PHILADELPHIA – La Salle women's soccer defeated Loyola (Md.) on two first half goals to wrap up a five game stretch on the road.
Junior
Leigh Gray netted her second goal of the season, the game-winner, in the fifteenth minute of play when the Explorers converted a Greyhound goal kick of a header from sophomore Anna Dolhanksy and a through pass from senior
Erin Brennan.
"It was really great to see Leigh open up the game early on and finish a difficult chance," said head coach
Paul Royal. "It really set a positive tone for our first half attack."
Junior
Renee Washington scored the Explorers' second goal just over 20 minutes later after single-handedly beating two Greyhound defenders and firing a point blank shot from 10 yards out. The goal was Washington's third this season and her ninth point in 2012.
The Explorers recorded 12 shots to the Greyhounds' (3-2-2) four and La Salle's defense only required junior goalkeeper Gabby Pakhtigian to make one save.
"Overall I was extremely happy with our team's commitment on the defensive side of the ball," said Royal. "Our back line of Komarnicki, Niemiec, Allen, Chilcoat and Pakhtigian did an outstanding job of neutralizing a very dangerous attack from Loyola."
La Salle returns home to McCarthy Stadium on Sunday to host Cornell (0-5-0) at 1 p.m. Live video and stats will be available on GoExplorers.com.
