Johnson Leads La Salle After First Day of ECACs

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP, NJ – The La Salle golf team shot a 29-over par 317 on the first day of competition at the ECAC Championship held at Twisted Dune Golf Club. The Explorers currently sit in fourth place out of the five team field. Leading the way for La Salle was Junior Mike Johnson who carded a 76 (+4) and is in solo ninth place.
 
Andrew Gain and Eric Edmunds from Saint Peter's both fired two-under par 70s (-2) to lead the 25 player field. Saint Peter's also leads the team competition after posting a two-over par 290 and is three strokes ahead of Navy.
 
Sophomore Greg Goodreds placed second for the Explorers after posting a seven-over 79 and currently sits in 14th place. Junior Tyler Fewell carded an eight-over 80 and finished in 15th place. Playing in his first tournament of the 2012 fall season, junior Tommy Horgan posted an 82 (+10) to finish in a tie for 18th. Freshman PJ Acierno rounded out the lineup for La Salle, carding an eleven-over 83.
 
Finished in third behind St. Peter's and Navy was Monmouth University (301), in fourth was La Salle (317), and in fifth place was St. Francis – NY (336).
 
The men's squad will resume play with tee times tomorrow starting at 8:00 am.
