The Match-Up
The Explorers and Flyers are tied at 15-15 in the series that dates back to 1993. The Explorers picked up their last win in the series on Feb. 10, 2006, a 62-50 decision at Tom Gola Arena. Dayton won last year's meeting 58-49 in Philadelphia.
Scouting the Explorers
The Explorers broke a 35-35 second half tie, outscoring Rhode Island 33-3 late in the second half en route to a 72-46 Atlantic 10 opening win over the Rams.
Michea Bryant scored 10 unanswered points in 48 seconds in the second half run and finished with 11 points, one off her season high.
Brittany Wilson recorded a double-double with a game-best 17 points and game-best 10 rebounds.
Jordan Mosley added 12 and
Shanel Harrison chipped in 10 as four Explorers hit double figures. Sophomore
Indigo Dickens also chipped in a career-best seven points.
Wilson continues to lead the Atlantic 10 in overall scoring, averaging 18.8 points per game. She also ranks 17th in the conference and tops on the team with 6.8 rebounds per game.
Shanel Harrison contributes 10.1 ppg and 5.9 rpg, and
Ebonee Jones rounds out the top three scorers and rebounders with 9.4 ppg and 4.9 rpg.
Karynda DuPree continues to rank in the Atlantic 10 in blocked shots per game, rejecting a team-best 1.6 shots.
Scouting the Flyers
With an 82-39 rout of Butler in its Atlantic 10 opener, Dayton moved up four spots in the AP poll to No. 18 while ranking No. 17 in the USA Today coaches' poll. The Flyers put together a 12-1 nonconference campaign, their lone loss being a 65-40 setback to Bowling Green in the final nonconference game of the season.
The Flyers lead the Atlantic 10 in scoring offense, pouring in 79.5 points per game. They also lead in scoring margin, outscoring opponents by an average of 20.5 ppg by holding opponents to 59.0 ppg. They lead the league in a number of other categories as well, including team field goal percentage, three-point field goal percentage and free throw percentage. The league's top rebounding squad crashes the boards for 47.6 rpg and holding opponents to 36.4 rpg.
Three Flyers average double figures, led by Ally Mallott's 12.4 ppg. Andrea Hoover adds 11.6 ppg and Samantha Mackay chips in 10.9 ppg. Amber Deane is in range of double figures, coming in just shy at 9.9 ppg. Mallott is the squad's top rebounder, pulling down 7.6 boards per game. Jodie Cornelie has rejected a team-best 25 shots off the bench, ranking fourth in the A-10 in blocked shots.
