Women's Basketball Hosts Butler In Televised Game On Sunday

PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle women's basketball squad returns home on Sunday to host Atlantic 10 newcomer Butler in a televised game on CBS Sports Network, with tipoff at 2 p.m.

The Match-Up

The Explorers and Bulldogs meet for the ninth time in the series history on Sunday, with the Explorers owning a 5-3 advantage in the series that dates back to 1991. La Salle won the first meeting, a 75-71 win in the La Salle Invitational on Dec. 29, 1991. The two squads were conference mates in the Midwestern Collegiate Conference (now Horizon League) from 1992-95, and the Explorers went 4-2 against the Bulldogs in that span. The two squads last met in the Indiana Tournament on Dec. 6, 1997, with Butler taking the 80-66 decision.

Scouting the Explorers

The Explorers are coming off of a 95-47 loss at No. 18/17 Dayton on Wednesday. Ebonee Jones led the squad with 12 points after scoring eight of La Salle's first nine points of the game. Brittany Wilson chipped in 10 points.

Wilson remains the Atlantic 10's leading scorer (18.2 ppg) and currently ranks in the top 20 in the Atlantic 10 in rebounding with 6.6 boards per game. Wilson adds a team-best 2.5 assists per game and has a team-best 23 steals.

Shanel Harrison adds 9.7 points per game and Ebonee Jones chips in 9.5. Harrison is second in rebounding with 5.9 rebounds.

Defensively, Karynda DuPree leads in blocked shots (1.6 bpg) and adds 3.6 rebounds. Her 1.6 blocks ranks seventh in the Atlantic 10.

Scouting the Bulldogs

Butler is coming off of its first league win as a member of the Atlantic 10 Conference, topping Xavier 71-67 behind 15 points from Taylor Schippers and 14 from Blaire Langlois. Prior to Xavier, the Bulldogs dropped an 82-39 decision to Dayton.

Daress McClung leads the Bulldogs in scoring and ranks in the top five of the Atlantic 10 with 15.8 points per game. She also adds a team-best 9.7 rebounds per game, also ranked in the top of the league.

Schippers adds 14.7 ppg and Liz Stratman chips in 12.4.

The Bulldogs went 9-6 during the nonconference season, with Fairfield being a common opponent between the squads. Fairfield topped Butler 54-45, while the Explorers took a 60-50 win over the Stags.

As a team, Butler scores 61.5 points and yield 62.9 to opponents. The Bulldogs shoot 38.5 percent as a team.

The Explorers return to action at Temple next Sunday (1/27) at 2 p.m. in an Atlantic 10 and Big 5 contest.
