PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle golf team will be raising money for breast cancer during its two October tournaments through its "Birdies Fore Breast Cancer" campaign.
The team is asking family and friends to donate 50 cents for every birdie the Explorers make during tournament competition in October. The Explorers will also be donning pink belts during the rounds at the Temple Invitational and Seton Hall Intercollegiate to raise awareness.
Senior
Tyler Fewell came up with the idea after seeing other teams raise money.
"I feel like this is a chance for the La Salle golf team to raise awareness and fundraise in a fun way," Fewell said. "Hopefully it will lead to better scores as we each will have a little extra motivation over each birdie putt."
"This was Tyler's idea, and I thought it was a great one," head coach
Brad Kane said. "October is breast cancer awareness month, so it tied in perfectly with our October tournaments. It's a disease that's touched so many people. My mom is in remission from breast cancer, so it's something that even touched my family too, unfortunately. So it's great to be able to give back and help out, if even just a little bit."
