Women's Basketball Drops 68-31 Game At St. Joe's

PHILADELPHIA - Saint Joseph's jumped out to an 18-3 lead midway through the first half and never looked back as the La Salle women's basketball team was dealt a 68-31 loss at Hagan Arena on Wednesday night.

The Hawks clinched second place in the Big 5 with the win and finished 3-1 in the city series. La Salle finished in a three-way tie with Temple and Penn with 1-3 records.

Shanel Harrison posted her ninth straight double-digit game, leading the Explorers (8-18, 4-7 Atlantic 10) with 12 points. She also earned team-high rebounding honors with eight boards, while contributing two steals, a block and an assist.

Chatilla van Grinsven led the Hawks (19-6, 10-1 Atlantic 10) with 16 points and 15 rebounds, and had a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds by halftime. Ashley Prim added 11 points and Erin Shields and Natasha Cloud contributed 10 apiece.

The Explorers were hampered by cold shooting throughout, and were limited to 23.0 percent for the game. The Hawks went 45.2 percent from the field. The Hawks also owned a 48-32 rebounding advantage.

La Salle returns to action on Sunday when Charlotte pays a visit to Tom Gola Arena at 1 p.m. The team's annual Senior Day ceremony will be held approximately 15 minutes prior to tipoff.
