Explorers In Fourth After Two Rounds At Manor Intercollegiate

FARMVILLE, Va. - The La Salle golf team shot a season-best score of 300 in the second round of the Manor Intercollegiate, hosted by Longwood, and stand in fourth-place after 36 holes on Friday. The Explorers carded a 310 in the first round and the two-round score of 610 is 10 shots back of the leader, George Mason.

"Everyone played really well in the second round," head coach Brad Kane said. "It's a tough course to walk 36 holes so we really perservered. Overall it's as pleased as I've been this season."

Freshman P.J. Acierno had a career-low round of 71 (-1) in the second round on Friday and combined with his 78, gave him a two-round score of 149 (+6), which is tied for 16th. Acierno eagled the 18th hole in both rounds.

Junior Tyler Fewell had a solid day, shooting a 77-74=151 (+8) and is tied for 21st. Classmate Mike Johnson shot a 75-77=152 (+9) and is tied for 26th.

Junior Tom Horgan (80-78=158, t-43rd) and sophomore Greg Goodreds (81-78=159, t-47th) rounded out the La Salle lineup.

George Mason (600) leads the team scoring by one stroke over Drexel and two shots over host Longwood. La Salle is tied with Delaware and St. Bonaventure 10 shots back.

Longwood's Dylan Jensen had a even-par 142 and leads the field by one stroke.

Play concludes with 18 holes on Saturday morning.
