CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. - The La Salle golf team finished up the first round of the 2013 Atlantic 10 Championship on Friday at Heron Bay Golf Club with a team total of 306 (+18). Junior Mike Johnson led the way for La Salle with a 74 (+2) and is tied for 25th.

Low rounds were plentiful on the links on Friday with 17 players shooting par or better. Rhode Island's Brandon Chicorka shot a five-under 66 to lead the field.

The Explorers stand in 13th but are just ninth shots out of eighth place. 

Johnson birdied his first hole and made the turn at two-under. He remained at two-under through 13 before three bogeys sandwiched a birdie on 17 to put him at even par on the 18th tee. The junior double-bogeyed his final hole to finish two-over.

Sophomore Greg Goodreds and freshman P.J. Acierno each shot 76s (+4) and are tied for 43rd. Goodreds carded three birdies, including two straight on the front nine, and Acierno added two birdies in his round.

Juniors Tyler Fewell and Tom Horgan each shot 80s (+8) and are tied for 59th. Each player had two birdies.

Charlotte leads the field with a 10-under team score of 278, one stroke ahead of VCU. Temple is in third (287), followed by Rhode Island (290), and Richmond and Xavier (291).

La Salle tees off at 7:30 AM on Saturday.
