th of Haycook's career, giving her sole possession of fifth place all-time for the Explorers.
Goalkeeper
Jessica Wiggins (Acton, Ma./Acton-Boxborough Regional) earned the win for La Salle, the first of her collegiate career. The redshirt sophomore recorded one save in the game as the Explorers outshot the Monarchs 17-5.
"I thought our defense had a steller performance and we were very happy with
Kelsey Haycook's form in the final third," head coach
Paul Royal said. "Her work rate and link play with the midfield was superb."
La Salle threatened in the first half, forcing Old Dominion goalkeeper Meredith Lenox to make four saves to keep the game scoreless at half. Even still, the best opportunity of the first frame came from ODU who ricocheted a blast off the sidebar from 25 yards out just over 30 minutes into the game.
"Overall it was a good result for our first game," Royal remarked. "However, we'll definitely need to be more polished and dynamic on the ball in the midfield and front line if we're going to win the tournament by beating James Madison on Sunday."
In the second half, La Salle continued to dominate much of the play recording 10 of their 17 shots.
The Explorers return to action on Sunday, facing tournament-host James Madison at 1:30 p.m.
