PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle field hockey team looks to capitalize on its win last Sunday when the Explorers travel to Connecticut for games at Sacred Heart on Friday and Fairfield on Sunday.
Scouting the Explorers
The Explorers routed UMass Lowell 3-0 in the home opener on Sunday behind two goals from
Olivia Shoemaker and a 12-save effort by
Lisa Shaffer.
Mariel Papa added her team-leading third goal of the season as well.
Papa has recorded six points (three goals) and Shoemaker has recorded five points on two goals and one assist through the season so far.
Maddy Tettelbach has scored twice and rookie
Abbey Lawrence has added a score.
Devin Muracco and
Olivia Leaman have each recorded one assist.
Shaffer's 12 saves added to a terrific start for the redshirt junior keeper, who ranks second in the nation in saves per game. The Explorers as a team lead the nation in saves per game and are fourth overall in defensive saves.

Scouting the Pioneers
Sacred Heart enters Friday's game with an even 2-2 record and looking to snap a two-game skid after winning its first two. The Pioneers outlasted Towson 3-2 in penalty strokes and topped Villanova 2-1. They fell 6-0 to Yale and 3-1 to Hofstra in their last time out. Four players have combined to score the team's five goals this season, led by Liz Bergman's two scores.
Keeper Mary Altepeter ranks eighth in the nation in saves per game and sports a 2.71 goals against average. Altepeter was named to the Preseason All-MAAC squad in the MAAC's inaugural field hockey season.
The Pioneers were selected to finish fifth out of seven MAAC teams.

Scouting the Stags
Fairfield is off to a strong 3-1 start this season, with the Stags' only loss a 4-3 setback to No. 3 Princeton. The Stags opened the season with a 2-1 win over Lehigh before dispatching Hofstra 3-2. In their last game, the Stags outlasted Saint Joseph's 3-2 in penalty strokes. They will also get a crack at No. 4 Connecticut on Friday.
Fairfield is opening some eyes after being picked to finish just fourth out of six America East teams. The squad returned eight starters from last season, including America East First Team pick Felicitas Heinen, who led the America East in scoring with 38 points. Heinen has 10 points on four goals and two assists so far this season.
Keeper Caitlin Bennett is recording a 2.03 goals against average and .786 save percentage.
