PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle field hockey team looks for a W when the Explorers take on a pair of opponents this weekend, first traveling to Rutgers on Friday (9/6) at 3 p.m. and hosting UMass Lowell in the home opener on Sunday (9/8) at noon.

The Explorers look to bounce back from losses to Hofstra and Quinnipiac in last weekend's Asics Invitational at Hofstra.
Mariel Papa scored a quick goal against the Pride before the home squad rattled off five unanswered scores in a 5-1 loss. The Explorers made a valiant comeback attempt against Quinnipiac before falling 6-4. Papa scored her second goal of the season and
Maddy Tettelbach scored a pair of goals against the Bobcats. The duo was named to the Asics Invitational All-Tournament Team.
Abbey Lawrence also netted her first collegiate goal, and
Juliana Carfagno recorded two assists on the weekend.

Scouting the Scarlet Knights
Rutgers enters Friday's contest with an even 1-1 record, falling 2-1 to Boston College in the season opener before bouncing back with a 5-2 decision over Vermont. Five different players scored goals over the weekend, with Sophie Wright scoring two en route to a BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll recognition. The Scarlet Knights return four of their top five scorers from a 9-10 team last season, led by Lisa Patrone who scored a team-best eight goals and assisted on three others for a team-high 19 points.

Scouting the River Hawks
UMass Lowell is playing its first season in Division I after a long run as one of the top teams in Division II. The River Hawks went 19-4 overall last season, and were the national D-2 runner-up, falling in the NCAA championship game to West Chester. The River Hawks' first weekend in D-I was certainly not an easy one, as they took on No. 11 Northwestern and No. 14 Massachusetts. They dropped a 3-0 decision to Northwestern before suffering a 6-0 defeat to the Minutewomen. Two of the top three scorers from last season return this year, including Melissa Effertz (14 goals, 11 assists, 39 points) and Bianca Jones (11 goals, four assists, 26 points).
