La Salle Nets Two Second Half Goals In Come From Behind Win, 2-1, Over Marshall

PHILADELPHIA—Two second half unanswered goals propelled La Salle women's soccer past Marshall, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon, improving the Explorers' record to 4-1-0 this season.

After relinquishing an early goal, the Explorers were blanked by the Thundering Herd's defense and entered halftime down, 1-0.

La Salle's offense was firing on all cylinders during the second half, more than doubling its shot total from the first frame.  The squad's persistence paid off and within the first 10 minutes of the second half Renee Washington scored her third goal of the season, burying a tremendous cross from teammate Maryam Huseini.  With the goal, Washington moves into second all-time for career goals scored and is just six goals away from tying the all-time record.

With the score locked at 1-1 for the next 20 minutes, La Salle earned a penalty kick after Kelsey Haycook was fouled inside the box.  Haycook took the shot for La Salle, striking the ball to the upper left corner, but was denied by an outstanding, diving save from Marshall keeper Lizzie Kish. The save was one of Kish's seven on the day, and the deflection rolled out of bounds past Marshall's end line, queuing a La Salle corner kick.

The ensuing corner kick would provide Haycook with the last laugh.  Huseini took the corner, feeding it to Dominique Ponente.  Ponente fired the ball towards the back post, finding the head of Kerri Aiken, who then headed it to Haycook.  Haycook would not miss again, heading the ball past Kish for the go-ahead goal.

The Herd would threaten for the remainder of the half, but La Salle's defense was able to hold on for the 2-1 vicrtory.

La Salle goalkeeper Katie Getzinger recorded the win for the Explorers, improving to 2-1-0 on the season.
