La Salle
All-Time Series
La Salle owns a 5-3 advantage in the fairly young series that began in 2006. The Explorers have won the last three straight over the Billikens, including a 49-46 win last season and a 53-52 win in the last visit to Chaifetz Arena.
Scouting the Explorers
The Explorers look to conquer some shooting inconsistencies after a dismal 24.5 percent clip in a 56-39 loss to Richmond on Wednesday evening which included going 0-for-11 from long range. In the game prior, the Explorers exploded for 77 points on 51.9 percent shooting from the field including 77.8 percent (7-for-9) from the three-point line in a 77-68 win on the road at George Washington.
One bright spot of the loss to Richmond was
Alicia Cropper recording her first career double-double with 11 points and a career-high 12 rebounds.
Jasmine Alston also added 11 points as the duo led the Explorers' offense.
Cropper has taken over the team scoring lead, averaging 13.1 ppg this season, including going 31.3 percent from long range. She leads the team in made three-pointers with 35, and adds 2.5 assists and 5.2 rebounds per game.
Micahya Owens is averaging 12.7 ppg while adding 5.0 rpg. She leads the team in free throw percentage, hitting 77.6 percent of her shots to rank 15th in the Atlantic 10.
Leeza Burdgess rounds out the top three scorers with 9.4 ppg while pulling down a team-best 7.5 boards. She ranks 11th in the A-10 in overall rebounding, and ranks third in the league with 3.6 offensive boards per game.
Alston improved to 6.1 ppg while chipping in 4.9 rpg. She leads the squad with 2.6 assists and is ranked seventh in the A-10 with 2.0 steals.
The Explorers are averaging 58.7 ppg as a team, ranking 12th; however, they limit opponents to 59.6 to rank fourth in the A-10 in scoring defense. Part of that defense is keeping opponents off the three-point line as the squad leads the league by holding teams to just 26.2 percent from long range.
A few trends have emerged this season which bodes well for Saturday's game. The squad is 5-0 on Saturdays and 6-3 on the road.
Two keys stats have emerged offensively - the squad is a perfect 8-0 when scoring at least 60 points and are 5-0 when they shoot at least 40 percent in the game.
Scouting the Billikens
Saint Louis is coming off of a huge upset win at Saint Joseph's on Wednesday night, using a 20-7 run to erase a deficit and hang on to defeat the Hawks 69-65 on Hawk Hill. Erin Nelson powered the Billikens with a game-high 18 points, all in the second half. Prior to Wednesday, the Billikens defeated Rhode Island 58-50 to snap a seven-game losing skid.
Nelson leads a pair of players averaging double figures on the season, scoring a team-high 14.0 points per game while chipping in 4.0 rebounds. She is a 76.2 percent free throw shooter as well, and leads the Billikens in three-pointers made on the season with 29.
Desirae Ball adds 12.3 points along with nearly 2.5 assists per game. She is one of two players, along with Denisha Womack, who shoot over 80 percent from the charity stripe. She is also a threat from long range with 24 three-pointers made.
