PHILADELPHIA - The accolades keep rolling in for the La Salle field hockey team, this time for sophomore goalkeeper
Rachel Hartman. Hartman has been named the PhilaFieldHockey.com Defender of the Week after a stellar performance in goal this past weekend.
PhilaFieldHockey.com honors Attackers, Defenders and Student-Athletes of the Week from submissions that are open to the 100+ college, high school, club and youth programs in Philadelphia, Bucks, Chester, Delaware and Montgomery counties.
Hartman recorded 17 saves this past weekend to help the squad to a 2-0 record, with wins over VCU and Richmond. She stopped 11 Spider shots as the Explorers upset first-place Richmond, which was undefeated in league play entering the game. She recorded a spectacular .895 save percentage on the weekend while giving up just one goal per game.
Hartman now ranks second nationally with a season save percentage of .846, and is sixth nationally with 7.70 saves per game. She also ranks 15th in the nation with a 1.34 goals against average. After starting the season 0-3, she has helped the squad post a 6-1 record in the last seven games as well as jump out to a first-place 3-1 Atlantic 10 record. In that seven-game span, she has posted a goals against average of just 1.08 and a save percentage of .871.
"Rachel has been playing outstanding for us thus far this season," Head Coach
Michelle Marks said. "She has been showing a lot of poise and making great decisions in cage. She is very deserving of this award and recognition after her performance this past weekend."
Hartman and the rest of the squad return to action for a first-place showdown at St. Francis (Pa.) on Friday, as both squads are currently 3-1 in the A-10.
