PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The La Salle men's tennis team downed Saint Peter's 4-3 in a non-conference matchup Sunday afternoon.
The Explorers fell behind, losing the double point, as the Peacocks picked up two of the three wins from doubles. The pairing of seniors
Dale Fetterman and
De'Sean Fennell picked up a 6-2 win in the doubles two position but that wasn't enough to grab the point as Saint Peter's grabbed both the doubles one, and doubles three matches to jump out to a 1-0 lead.
La Salle was able to get back into the match during the singles portion of the contest.
De'Sean Fennell continued his momentum from doubles, in the singles one position grabbing a 6-2, 6-4 victory over the top player from Saint Peter's.
Sophomore
Brian Balico dropped straight sets 0-6, 0-6 at position two. But, sophomore
Mark Robinson picked the team up with a big victory in singles three, pulling out the three set thriller 6-0, 4-6, 10-4.
Senior
Dale Fetterman fell in the singles four spot, 1-6, 3-6, but again the Explorers were able to rebound. Senior
Thomas MacLeod pulled out a nail biting three set win 1-6, 6-3, 10-8.
With things all tied up 3-3 the outcome of the match lied in the singles six position which featured senior
Andrew O'Connell. The senior was ab le to pull out another five set victory for La Salle, 7-5, 4-6, 10-5, which gave the Explorers a narrow 4-3 team win.
La Salle returns to action Thursday afternoon when the host NJIT at 3:30 p.m. on Belfield Courts.
