GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – The La Salle women's tennis team defeated the Gwynedd Mercy Griffins 6-1 at the GM Tennis Courts on Wednesday afternoon.

The Explorers took a 1-0 lead after sweeping doubles competition to start the match. Caitlin Coelho and Alexandra Santerelli teamed up to take the No. 1 doubles match 9-8.
Celesta Smith and Jade Smith triumphed 8-1 on the No. 2 doubles court while Jayla Smith and Kathryn Thomas blanked Kristen Kriebel and Michele Arechavala 8-0 in the third doubles slot.

Coelho handled Taylor Michener 6-2, 6-1 on the No. 1 singles court while Celesta Smith blanked Amanda Goff 6-0, 6-0 on the second singles court.

Santerelli turned away Gabrielle Muller 6-2, 6-3 in the No. 3 slot while Jade and Jayla Smith were victorious on courts No. 4 and 5, respectively.

The Explorers return to the court on Saturday at Chestnut Hill.
