WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The La Salle women's tennis team put on another strong showing as they defeated the Monmouth University Hawks 4-3 at the MU Tennis Courts on Monday afternoon.

The Blue and Gold swept the doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead and set the tempo for the afternoon. Celesta Smith and Alexandra Santerelli won a hotly contested match 8-7 at No. 1 doubles while Jade Smith Caitlin Coelho won 8-0 on the No. 2 court and Jayla Smith and Cecile Johnson won 8-5 in the No. 3 slot.

Celesta Smith kept the momentum going during singles play by handling Chioma Gabriel 7-5, 6-1 in No. 2 singles.

Jade and Jayla Smith were able to pick up wins in their singles matches to push the Explorers over the edge. Jade Smith defeated Ashley Sandler 6-3, 4-6, 10-3 at No. 4 while Jayla Smith took the No. 5 match 6-1, 6-4 over Robyn Belen.

The Explorers return to the court at Mount Saint Mary's on Saturday October 11.
