PHILADELPHIA - La Salle Softball Head Coach
Ron Shoemaker has announced the addition of sophomore transfer Mackenzie Obert to the Explorer squad in the 2014-15 season. Obert, a Pennsbury High School graduate, played her freshman season at Hartford.
Obert will rejoin former high school teammates
Christina Bascara,
Val Buehler and
Suzanne Swanicke.
"Mackenzie is a valuable asset to our program as she can play multiple positions," Shoemaker said. "Also, as she has experience playing with many of our girls, the transition to La Salle should be an easy one."
Obert started all 38 games of her rookie campaign at Hartford, recording 65 putouts and 54 assists. She was second on the team with six stolen bases while adding 18 hits, four doubles and five RBI.
The Fairless Hills, Pa., native played four seasons on varsity at Pennsbury, helping lead the team to a pair of third place finishes in the PIAA state tournament in 2012 and 2013. She was a three-time All-Suburban One League pick, including a First Team nod in 2011, as well as a
Courier Times Golden Team selection. She also has club experience on the Newtown Rock and with the Adidas Futures team.
The academic standout earned Dean's List honors both semesters at Hartford, and was a winner of the U.S. Army Academic/Athletic Award in high school.
