PHILADELPHIA – The men's tennis team opened up action on the first day of the St. Joseph's Invitational on Friday.

Thomas MacLeod was able to pick up a singles victory on the first day to advance to the final 16 in Flight 3. MacLeod defeated Matt Bejian from Loyola 6-3, 2-6, 10-5. He will advance to face Valentijn van Erven from Saint Joseph's tomorrow at 2:30 p.m.

MacLeod also picked up a win in doubles paired with
De'Sean Fennell. The duo downed a team from Loyola, 8-3 to advance in the action. They will face a team from cross town rivals Villanova tomorrow at 9:30 a.m.

In singles
De'Sean Fennell dropped a 6-3, 7-6 (4) decision to Michael Nguyen from Army.
Brian Balico fell 6-3, 4-6, 10-7 to Brett Shriver from Loyola (Md.).
Dale Fetterman lost 6-0, 6-0 to Peter Colliard from Fairfield and
Mark Robinson dropped a 6-4, 6-0 decision to Timber Erskine from Boston University.
The doubles pairing of Balico and Robinson fell 8-1 to a team from Boston University in Flight 1.
All players who lost on the first day of action will be placed into consolation matches tomorrow morning.
