Haycook Selected as Senior Class Candidate

OVERLAND PARK, Kan.- La Salle women's soccer senior Kelsey Haycook has been selected as a candidate for the prestigious Senior CLASS Award, it was announced today.  The Point Pleasant, N.J. native is one of 30 NCAA Division I women's soccer student-athletes selected for excelling both on and off the field.

Haycook recently set the all-time scoring record for the La Salle women's soccer program (41 goals) and has compiled 101 career points, just 12 points short of the program-high mark of 113. Haycook has been named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week a total of seven times in her career, and has garnered All-Mid-Atlantic Region and A-10 All-Conference recognition in each of her first three seasons.  As a freshman she was named to Soccer America's All-Freshman First Team, the NSCAA All-America team, and voted A-10 Rookie of the Year.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

Haycook sports a 3.79 GPA as a Nutrition major through her junior year, and has been named to the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll in each of her three years at La Salle. This past season, Haycook was named a Capital One Academic All-American selection, earned Scholar All-America recognition from the NSCAA, and was named a CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree. Haycook also garnered Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area recognition, and was selected to the Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team.

Haycook has been involved in community engagement activities in both in the La Salle community and her home town of Point Pleasant, New Jersey. For the last two years, Haycook has volunteered at Philadelphia's Sunday Breakfast Rescue Mission. She has also worked extensively with Point Pleasant Recreation Department, including volunteering with the Micro Soccer program (2008-2014), their Haunts in the Park event (2007-2013), the Holiday Tree Lighting ceremony (2008-2013), and the community Easter Egg Hunt (2009-2013). From 2009-2012, Haycook also worked with Relay for Life as an event volunteer.

The 30 candidate class will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one male candidate and one female candidate who best exemplify excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.

The Senior CLASS Award winners will be announced during the 2014 NCAA Men's and Women's College Cup® championships in December.
