PHILADELPHIA - Following three straight road games to open the 2014 season, the La Salle field hockey squad will make its home debut with a pair of games this week at Hank DeVincent Field. The Explorers host Villanova on Wednesday (9/10) at 4 p.m. and Rider on Saturday (9/13) at noon. Wednesday's contest against the Wildcats will be streamed live on GoExplorers.TV.

Scouting the Explorers...Abbey Lawrence drained the squad's first goal of the season last Friday to knot the game at 1-1, but two late Columbia goals were the difference in a 3-1 setback to the Lions on the road.

The young squad, which is comprised of nine freshman and five sophomores to just seven upperclassmen, has seen plenty of playing time from the newest Explorers. Eight of the nine freshmen have gotten playing time, with six having made their first collegiate starts. Rookie
Eileen Dzwill leads the team with five attempted shots.
Hartman has recorded a total of 23 saves in three games to sport a .793 save percentage to counter the 47 shots that opponents have fired. The offense is looking to click yet, having attempted just 18 shots so far this season.
Scouting the Wildcats...Villanova split a pair of contests last weekend, falling 4-2 at Fairfield and bouncing back with a 2-1 win at Siena. The Wildcats also own a 4-1 win over Missouri State and a 2-1 overtime loss to Sacred Heart.
Eight different Wildcats have at least one point on the season, led by Abigail Freitag's six points on two goals and two assists. Jessica Swoboda has also found the back of the cage twice, and a trio of players have a goal and assist each.
Keeper Jordyn Clipstone has played all 295 possible minutes, and is recording a 1.90 goals against average and .704 save percentage. As a team, the Wildcats are averaging 14.2 attempted shots, having scored nine goals including a perfect 2-for-2 on penalty stroke attempts.
Scouting the BroncsRider is also 2-2 on the season after splitting a pair of contests in North Carolina last weekend. The Broncs fell to Davidson 2-1 and then bounced back with a 3-1 victory over Appalachian State.
The Broncs have also faced Missouri State, an opponent the Explorers will see in October. They topped Missouri State 1-0 in the season opener, before recording a 3-2 overtime loss to Saint Francis (Pa.)
Dezarae Fillmyer has provided the offensive spark for the Broncs, scoring four goals and assisting on another for a team-best nine points. All four of Fillmyer's goals have come on penalty strokes, as she a perfect 4-for-4 in attempts. Three others players have recorded one goal each, including Carlie Spaeder who has attempted a team-high 13 shots.
Two Broncs have played in goal, with Joelle Prettyman logging the majority of minutes. She sports a 1.46 goals against average and .667 save percentage. Hannah Isaacs has played just over 43 minutes in relief, and given up just one goal in that time.
As a team, the Broncs are outshooting opponents 55-38 and have logged 28 penalty corners to 25 for opponents.
