PHILADELPHIA- La Salle sophomore third baseman
Christina Bascara has been named the Atlantic 10 Softball Player of the Week following her impressive weekend against Rhode Island.
Bascara hit .714 (5-7) with nine RBI and a pair of homers while scoring four runs of her own. She ended the week with a .800 on base percentage and a slugging percentage at 1.714.
The Yardley, Pa. native hit a grand slam in the first game of the Saturday doubleheader to help La Salle blow open the game on their way to a 10-2 win. In the second game of the doubleheader Bascara opened up the scoring for the Explorers when she singled to right field to bring home
Kristin Travers as La Salle went on to grab a 2-0 win.
In the final game of the series Bascara helped La Salle ensure them of a series sweep as she broke a 4-4 deadlock in the fourth inning with an RBI single to right field. Two innings later she hit a two run homer to left field to give La Salle some breathing room on their way to an 8-4 win.
The Explorers return to action on Tuesday as they travel to Villanova for a nonconference matchup while also hosting UMBC and Drexel midweek.
