Softball Heads to Lafayette for Wednesday Doubleheader

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – La Salle softball heads to Easton, Pa. for a midweek doubleheader against Lafayette on Wednesday with first pitch slated for 3 p.m.

Scouting the Explorers 
La Salle moved into fourth place in the Atlantic 10 thanks to their 4-2 conference record after a doubleheader sweep over St. Bonaventure this past weekend. Freshman Valerie Pineiro went 6-6 with three home runs, eight RBIs, and three runs scored to fuel the Explorers in the sweep.
 
Pineiro and sophomore Christina Bascara are tied for fourth in the conference with a batting average of .429 on the year. The duo also rank fourth and fifth with .484 and .500 on-base percentages respectively while Pineiro leads the league with a slugging percentage of 1.036 while Bascara is fifth at .714. Pineiro ranks 13th in the country averaging .42 homers per contest and is fifth in the nation in slugging percentage. Bascara and Pineiro are tied for 70th in batting average while Pineiro's 1.08 RBIs per game ranks 57th in the nation.
 
In the circle junior Mary Cate Scott, senior Alicia Aughton, and freshman McKenzie Peace have split the action. Scott has an ERA of 2.90 which is the lowest on the team while recording 23 strikeouts on her way to a 2-2 record with two saves. Aughton and Peace each own 2-3 records.

Scouting the Leopards
Lafayette enters the weekend after dropping two out of three games to Army last weekend. The Leopards fell 7-4, 9-1 in a doubleheader on Saturday before winning the final game of the series, 4-3, on Sunday.   
Junior Bryn Gornick leads the team with eight RBIs on the year and 21 total bases. She also has recorded the Leopards only home run of the season and has a team high 16 hits. Freshman Rebecca Dvorak leads the team with a .255 average on the year. Senior Kelly Lallis has scored a team high eight runs on the season. She also owns the second highest on-base percentage on the team at .306.
 
In the circle sophomore Lindsey Cherry has thrown the most innings for Lafayette. Cherry has thrown 48.2 innings compiling a 2-7 record with a team low 5.47 ERA while notching 24 strikeouts. She has also thrown four complete games in nine starts on the year.

The Explorers return home to host Rhode Island for a weekend series with a doubleheader slated for Saturday beginning at noon and a single game on Sunday at noon.
