Men's Tennis | August 31, 2015

PHILADELPHIAJosh Schofield, who has 12 years of tennis coaching experience at the Division I and Division III levels, has been named the head men's and women's tennis coach at La Salle, Director of Athletics Dr. Tom Brennan announced today.

"Josh has experience with all areas of running a tennis program and his experience as a high-level player will help our student-athletes improve their game," Brennan said. "He is ready to be a head coach and we look forward to his impact on our tennis program."

Schofield arrives at La Salle having coached 11 years at Swarthmore College, serving as the assistant men's tennis coach (2003-06, 2008-11), acting head men's tennis coach (2011-12) and associate head men's tennis coach (2012-15). He also served as the assistant men's tennis coach at Penn for one season.

"I am honored to be part of the La Salle University community and lead its tennis programs," Schofield said. "I am excited to get out on the courts and start to practice with the men's and women's teams. I am looking forward to working together to build a strong tennis program here at La Salle. I would like to thank Director of Athletics Dr. Tom Brennan and the search committee of John Lyons, Mary Ellen Wydan and Dr. Beth Paulin for this opportunity."

While at Swarthmore, the Garnet reached the NCAA Division III Tournament three times and advanced to the Round of 16 in 2004 and 2005 and the Quarterfinals in 2006. Swarthmore finished in the top 25 nationally twice during Schofield's tenure.

In the past three years as the associate head coach, Swarthmore compiled a 22-5 record in Centennial Conference matches, falling in the conference championship match in two of those seasons.

An accomplished tennis player in his own right, Schofield has won several tennis titles, including the USTA 30s national grass singles championship. This spring, he represented the United States at the International Tennis Federation Young Seniors World Team Championships in Turkey. He is currently a member of the USTA Men's 35 National Team.

A 2001 graduate of Villanova with a bachelor's degree in history and Russian area studies, Schofield was a member of the men's tennis team. He earned Big East Academic All-Star status twice. He later earned master's degrees from Florida State (Russian and Eastern European studies, 2003) and Temple (sport and recreation management, 2006).
