PHILADELPHIA - Madison Bower scored on a header in the 77th minute to lift La Salle to a 2-1 victory over the Lehigh Mountain Hawks on Thursday night at McCarthy Stadium.
Â
Fia Jonsson took a La Salle corner kick at the 76:10 mark, sending it off Lehigh keeper Ani Nahapetian and another Mountain Hawk defender to just outside the 18-yard box.
Deja Davis gathered the loose ball and sent it towards the back post to set up Bower's game-winner.
Â
"It was all created by teamwork," said Bower. "It was played out wide to Deja, she crossed it and it was a great opportunity."
Â
Before scoring her first career goal, the sophomore played a hand in
Marykate Bateman's goal to give La Salle a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute.
Â
Bower threaded a header towards a streaking
Maci Bower on the near sideline, who delivered the ball to Bateman in the far side of the box. Bateman beat a charging Nahapetian to the ball and deposited it inside the near post.
Â
"It started with our forwards, I thought Madi and Marykate really brought a great level of energy and competitiveness," said head coach
Paul Royal. "They set the tone for us."
Â
The Explorers were also solid defensively, preventing Lehigh from taking a single corner kick and allowing the lone goal on a  penalty kick in the 68th minute. La Salle keeper
Katie Getzinger made a season-high seven saves on the night.
Â
"I'm confident the girls are going to continue to build off this," added Royal. "Hopefully we can build some momentum heading into the end of our nonconference schedule.
Â
The Explorers are back in action on Sunday as they visit the Pitt Panthers at 11 AM on Ambrose Urbanic Field.
