PHILADELPHIA - La Salle softball senior Kendra Heyer has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Third Team, it was announced today. She becomes just the second Academic All-American in softball program history.

"I'm speechless," Heyer said. "It is a great feeling to know that all of my hard work has paid off. I have sacrificed a lot to play softball in college and spent countless hours studying to maintain my grades. I'm excited to go out on a high note!"

The Bothell, Wash. native graduated with a perfect 4.0 grade point average as a speech pathology major. She received La Salle's Academic Achievement Award for the highest GPA by a graduating senior.

Heyer also earned Academic All-District and Academic All-Atlantic 10 honors this spring.

The outfielder batted .297 and started 35 games for the Explorers. She had four doubles, two home runs and drove in 11.

In the field, she did not made an error in 52 chances. Heyer earned Atlantic 10 All-Rookie honors as a freshman in 2013 after batting .342.

She becomes the 37th Explorer since 1972 to earn Academic All-America honors and the ninth since 2012. It marks the seventh straight year that La Salle has had an Academic All-American.

Gina Massaro is the only other La Salle softball player to earn Academic All-America honors in 2010.
