PHILADELPHIA – Head coach
Paul Royal is pleased to announce the promotion of
Jamie Scott to the top assistant position and the addition of former Explorer Jessica Wiggins to the La Salle women's soccer coaching staff.
"It gives me great pride in announcing the promotion of
Jamie Scott to our top assistant position as well as the addition of Jess Wiggins, one of the premier goalkeepers in the Atlantic 10 in the past five years," said Royal."
Scott, who has been with the program since 2012, was promoted to the second assistant last season after three years as a volunteer assistant. With the help of Scott, the Explorers captured Atlantic 10 regular season titles in 2012 and 2014 and consecutive A-10 tournament championships in 2012 and 2013. The Blue and Gold have also made three NCAA Tournament appearances since Scott's arrival.
"Jamie's loyalty and passion for our program and players has been absolutely amazing," Royal said. "I'm extremely confident that Jamie will do a phenomenal job directing our recruiting efforts and attacking system in the upcoming years. He's already proven he has a great eye for the type of player that succeeds in our competitive environment and his attacking acumen will help define how creative and relentless our girls will be in the final third."
Wiggins will work with the goalkeepers and oversee the team's academic progress. A two-time A-10 First Team All-Conference goalkeeper, Wiggins was named NSCAA Scholar All-East Region and A-10 All-Academic in 2014. As a senior that season, the Acton, Mass. native led the league in wins and allowed just three goals in eight league games for a .38 goals against average in conference play.
"Having Jess on staff will greatly benefit our girls both off and on the field," added Royal. "Jess has always been a well-respected and compassionate leader here so I'm fully expecting her transition from player to coach be a natural one."
