La Salle Visits Saint Joseph’s Sunday for Big 5 Showdown

PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle women's basketball team travels across town this weekend as they visit the Saint Joseph's Hawks for their final Big 5 game of the season on Sunday afternoon.

Scouting the Explorers

-The Explorers topped St. Bonaventure 57-45 on the road Tuesday night to get back in the win column after GW snapped La Salle's five-game win streak on Saturday.
 
-La Salle outscored SBU 37-20 over the final 17:43 in Tuesday's win. Micahya Owens had all 13 of her points in the second half while Amy Griffin tallied her third double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds.
 
-Griffin was named to the 2017 Dawn Staley Award Mid-Season Watch List earlier this week. The Dawn Staley Award is given to the most outstanding collegiate guard in the country. Griffin leads the A-10 in scoring with 19.6 points per game and has twice been named A-10 Player of the Week this season.
 
-With the 13-point performance against St. Bonaventure, Owens (1,437 career points) passed 2017 Big 5 Hall of Fame inductee Carlene Hightower (1,425 pts, 2004-08) and Kathy Bess (1,426 pts, 1978-82) to move into 8th place on La Salle's all-time scoring list.
 
-Adreana Miller finished with 12 points Tuesday thanks to a 6-for-6 performance from the foul line. The sophomore has shot 88.2% (54-for-59) from the foul line this year, which is third in the A-10 in free throw shooting.
 
-Jasmine Alston, who is 8th in the NCAA in assists (7.1 apg) and 3rd in the A-10 in rebounds (9.1 rpg), is the only player in program history to appear in the top five in all-time rebounding and assists. The senior has 753 career rebounds (5th all-time) and 557 career assists (2nd all-time).
 
-Lisa Mintzer tied a season-high with seven rebounds as the Explorers controlled the glass 40-32 against the Bonnies.
 
Scouting the Hawks
-Saint Joseph's four-game win streak was snapped on Thursday at Fordham as the Rams topped the Hawks, 44-39, at Rose Hill Gym.
 
-The 39 points the Hawks scored at Fordham was their lowest scoring output this season. SJU shot just 31.5% (17-for-54) from the floor on the game.
 
-SJU limited Fordham to 13-of-49 shooting (26.5 percent), including 3-of-17 from behind the arc (17.6 percent).
 
-Junior Chelsea Woods is the top scorer for the Hawks with an average of 13.7 ppg while Adashia Franklyn (12.0 ppg) and Alyssa Monaghan (10.6 ppg) also average in double figures for Saint Joseph's.
 
-At 8-4 in the A-10, the Hawks have already matched last year's total for conference wins.
