JERSEY CITY, N.J. - Juniors
Ally Santerelli and
Jade Smith earned wins in both singles and doubles to help the La Salle University women's tennis team pick up a 4-3 win over Saint Peter's on Sunday.
Santerelli and Smith each won their singles matches at No. 2 and No. 5, respectively, while the duo paired up to earn a 6-2 victory at the No. 2 doubles spot. Smith's three-set win clinched the team victory for the Explorers, their first during a championship spring season since April 16, 2013 (Rider, 4-3).
"The team played so well," head coach
Josh Schofield said. "Every point was contested and our tenacity paid off today. It was nice to see
Jade Smith clinch the match, especially after last year's season-ending injury."
Freshman
Ali Snyder lost just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 win at the No. 2 singles slot, while freshman
Maansi Malhotra and junior
Jayla Smith clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 triumph at No. 3.
"The team is truly coming together and everyone contributed," Schofield concluded.
La Salle continues its season on Saturday, Feb. 25 with a match at Colgate.
