NEW HAVEN, Conn- The Explorers traveled to New Haven, Conn. on Friday and Saturday to compete in the Giegengack Invitational, hosted by Yale University. The team posted strong results, including six first place finishes at Coxe Cage over the weekend.
Mone't Gist posted a new school record when she sprinted a time of 8.88 in the 60m hurdles event, topping her own school record set in 2016 (8.92) to lead the Explorers in their success. Gist placed first overall in the event, while freshman
Shelby Francis followed behind in fourth place when she crossed the line in 9.19.
Freshman
Jessica Bryant claimed a new school record this weekend in the triple jump when she leapt 11.19 to place second in the field, while Miller recorded a 10.98m jump to place third on the day. Sophomore
Kaleah Miller won the long jump with a leap of 5.52m, while Bryant jumped a distance of 5.39 to place fourth overall.
Gist and Francis also appeared in the 200m event, along with teammate
Desirae Osley. Freshman Osley led the pack with a sixth place finish in 26.31, while Gist ran a 26.80 to finish 14
th overall. Francis crossed the line in a personal record of 26.96 to finish 16
th in the pack of 26 runners.
Ifetayo Tyler posted another first place finish for the Explorers when she ran a 2:53.13 in the 1000m event.
Morgan Szekely was the second of the Explorers to compete in the event, finishing in 3:06.78 to place ninth overall.
All three Explorers that competed in the one mile event set new career bests. Szekely got her best finish of the day when she placed first, clocking in a time of 4:53.03 over the rest of the competitors. Freshman
Grace Mancini followed behind in second place, crossing the line with a time of 5:06.67.
Michelle Myland also competed in the one mile event, finishing the distance in 5:14.60 to place fifth in the field.
Finishing first in the 3000m event, Kaitlin Poisez topped the field with 10:04.66 as the only representative for La Salle.
Olivia Boyer also grabbed another first place finish for La Salle when she sprinted to a time of 18:07.57 in the 5000m event for a new personal best time.
Osley led a trio of Explorers in the 400m event when she clocked a career best time of 59.02 to place third in the race, while
Amber Jenkins followed behind in fourth with a time of 59.13.
Tyller Moorer also competed, finishing 12
th overall while crossing the line in a time of 1:04.13.
Freshman
Capri Laurence was the sole runner for La Salle in the 500m event, finishing 13
th overall with a time of 1:21.74.
Devon Barr ran a time of 2:29.45 in the 800m, finishing 10
th on the day.
Rounding out La Salle's performance was a 4x400m relay of Bryant, Francis, Jenkins and Osley that placed third overall with a time of 3.59.85.
The Explorers will return to the track on Friday, Feb. 10 when the team heads to Staten Island, N.Y. to compete at the Fastrack National Qualifier Invite.
