STONY BROOK, N.Y. - The women's track and field teams jumped into the spring season on Thursday, March 23 at the Stony Brook Quad Meet. La Salle faced Columbia, Iona, Providence and host Stony Brook to get the season underway.
Jumpers
Amber Jackson and
Jessica Bryant got the spring season off to a strong start with two first place finishes in the long jump and triple jump. Senior Jackson leapt a distance of 5.19m in the long jump to place first, while Bryant leapt 11.02m to take first in the triple jump.
Bryant also competed in the long jump, finishing in fourth with a leap of 4.95m, while sophomore
Kaleah Miller leapt a distance of 4.71m to place sixth overall.
In the triple jump, Jackson finished second behind Bryant thanks to a leap of 10.69m, while Miller wrapped up La Salle's performance with a leap of 10.98m.
Freshman
Grace Mancini competed in the shot put, finishing in fourth with a throw of 5.13m.
Mone't Gist appeared in the discus throw, hurling the discus a distance of 13.76m to finish second.
Competing in the javelin throw for the first time in her collegiate career,
Rosemary Tuzzino threw a 6.81m distance to place tenth overall.
Miller competed in the 100m dash as well, sprinting a time of 13.58 to place fourth in the race.
Ariel Mitchell and
Desirae Osley finished fifth and sixth respectively in the 200m, with Mitchell clocking a time of 26.16 and Osley finishing in 27.22 on the day.
Shelby Francis also competed in the 200m, finishing in a time of 27.76 to top 10 other competitors. Francis ran a time of 1:10.58 in the 400m hurdles dash to place fourth overall.
Jenkins appeared in the 400m dash, clocking a time of 1:01.47 to place fifth overall, while
Tyller Moorer finished in 1:09.24 on the day.
A trio of Explorers competed in the 800m race, with sophomore
Emily Ward leading La Salle with a time of 2:33.75.
Devon Barr (2:35.93) and
Capri Laurence (2:38.93) also competed.
A duo of Tuzzino and
Madison Elliott competed in the 1500m run, with Tuzzino clocking a time of 5:32.45 and Elliott recorded a 5:43.37.
Morgan Szekely led a trio of Explorers in the 3000m when she recorded a time of 10:01.28 to place second overall.
Michelle Myland (10:41.46) and Mancini (10:41.50) placed 11
th and 12
th overall.
A 4x100m relay team ran a time of 51:45 to place fourth, while the 4x800m relay team clocked a time of 9:56.77 on the day.
