Evan Gaesser and junior
Brandon Raihl each tied for 15th place and finished as the top scorers for the La Salle University men's golf team at its home event, the Finegan Invitational, on Monday. The 36-hole competition was played at Whitemarsh Valley Country Club.
Gaesser put together the top round of the day by an Explorer over the first 18 holes he played, firing a one-over par 73. The round featured an impressive back-nine performance that produced a score of one-under par 35. His second-round 77 put him at 150 for the tournament and tied with his teammate.
Playing as an individual for the Explorers, Raihl carded consecutive rounds of 75 to close at 150 as well. His first round featured three birdies against six bogeys, while his second consisted of three birdies, four bogeys and a double.
Senior
P.J. Acierno tied for 18th individually after carding 76-75, while sophomore
Nick Gruber shot the second-best round by a La Salle player on the afternoon, a two-over 74, that was a six-stroke improvement on his first-round score.
Sophomore
Nick Geiman (78-82=160) and senior
Joe Markmann (81-81=162) rounded out the group taking part in the third annual Finegan Invitational that was named in memory of noted golfer and writer Jim Finegan '51, the only Explorer golfer in the La Salle Hall of Athletes.
Longwood's Jordan Boulton was the lone player to finish in the red over 36 holes, finishing at four-under par 140 to stand four strokes in front of a trio of golfers at even par to earn medalist honors. The Lancers also took home the team title by one stroke over Drexel at 586.
The La Salle University men's golf team continues its spring campaign at the Navy Classic on April 22-23.
