Men's Golf To Host Finegan Invitational on Monday

PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle University men's golf team will host its home event for the sixth consecutive year on Monday at Whitemarsh Valley Country Club in Lafayette Hill.

The event was renamed the Finegan Invitational in 2015, in memory of noted golfer and writer Jim Finegan '51, the only Explorer golfer in the La Salle Hall of Athletes.

Fourteen teams will compete in the 36-hole event at the par-72, 6,641-yard course. In addition to the Explorers, Alvernia, Bucknell, Central Connecticut, Delaware, Drexel, Lafayette, Lehigh, Longwood, Monmouth, Navy, Rhode Island, Rosemont and Villanova will take part in the event that begins at 9:00 a.m.

In addition to an outstanding collegiate career for the Explorers, Mr. Finegan was a noted golf writer. He received the United States Golf Association's Herbert Warren Wind Book Award in 2006 and is consiered the American authority on golf courses in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

He also received the Golf Association of Philadelphia's Distinguished Service Award in 2010. Mr. Finegan wrote the official histories of Pine Valley Golf Club and Aronimink Golf Club. He won club championships at Pine Valley and Philadelphia Country Club. Finegan passed away in March, 2015.
