Hawthorne and Lewandowski Earn All-East at IC4A/ECAC Championship

Women's Track and Field | May 14, 2017

PRINCETON, N.J- The men and women's track and field teams spent the weekend in Princeton, N.J. competing at the IC4A/ECAC Championships at Weaver Stadium. The Explorers wrapped up the three day weekend on Sunday, May 14 with a pair of Explorers earning All-East honors (Top Eight).

Stephen Lewandowski and Anthony Hawthorne headlined the day for La Salle when the duo earned All-East honors their individual successes in their respective events. The pair garnered La Salle's best finishes of the day in the final week of the season.

Senior Lewandowski earned the honor after he sprinted to a fifth place finish in the 1500m event, clocking a time of 3:49.21. The distance runner earned four points for La Salle with the result. He topped 34 additional runners in the field to claim the honor in his final year of competition in a La Salle jersey.

Rookie Hawthorne showcased his young talent in the 800m event, registering a time of 1:51.13 on the day. The freshman garnered a sixth place finish among the field of 46 runners. He demonstrated a season's worth of work with the finish, adding three points for La Salle's overall score.

Two additional Explorers, Bradley Heuer (3:58.86) and David Ozarowski (3:59.00) competed in the 1500m event, while Justin Guerre (22.10) appeared in the 200m sprint.

Fran Ferruzzi (14:33.98) and Brendan Robertson (15:19.84) competed in the 5000m event. Ferruzzi shaved 11 seconds off of his personal best to set a new individual standard as he finished 14th in the field. 

Isaiah Akil clocked a 49.57 in the 400m dash, while Ache Hall (15.22) competed in the 100m event.

A men's 4x400m (3.23.90) relay and a 4x800m relay (8:11.29) also competed on the day.

In the women's competition, rookie Jessica Bryant leapt to a sixth place finish in the long jump to earn La Salle's best finish on the day. Bryant earned three points for La Salle with the 5.69m leap in her final week of competition as a rookie.

Kaleah Miller also competed, leaping a distance of 5.47m on the day. Morgan Szekely (2:22.38) ran in the 800m event to wrap up La Salle's performance of the day.

The Explorers will race again tomorrow in a  quick turnaround at the Swarthmore Last Chance Meet in Swarthmore, Pa.
