PRINCETON, N.J. - Two La Salle University men's tennis players took part in the qualifying draw of ITA Northeast Regionals on Thursday. Sophomores
Rogelio Gonzalez and
Connor Merrill each had opportunities to earn a spot in the main draw but came up short.
Gonzalez came the closest to advancing to the main draw, earning a relatively easy 6-2, 6-2 win over his first opponent, Binghamton's Alejandro Pena. Cornell junior Joseph McAllister was Gonzalez's second opponent, with McAllister coming out on top, 6-1, 6-1.
Merrill had his opportunities in the opening set of his match against Army's Nikita Larichev. The two players went to a tiebreaker in the first set, with Larichev coming away with a 10-5 win. The second set would go to Larichev, 6-2.
A third Explorer,
Francesco Mowrey, already secured a spot in the main draw by way of his regional ranking, and will square off against Drexel's Sanil Jagtiani in the first round on Friday, Oct. 12. First serve is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
