PRINCETON, N.J. - La Salle University senior
Francesco Mowrey fought valiantly in his opening-round match against a local opponent at ITA Northeast Regionals on Friday, but came up just short of advancing to the second round.
Mowrey's opponent was Drexel's Sanil Jagtiani, who had worked through the qualifying draw the day before. The Bethlehem, Pa. product earned a first-set win when he defeated Jagtiani in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (2). The second set also advanced to a tiebreak, with Jagtiani coming out on top, 7-6 (2).
In the third and final set, Jagtiani edged Mowrey, 6-4, to move on and face Princeton's Karl Poling, the 9/16 seed, in the second round.
The Explorers will conclude the fall season on Nov. 9-11 at the Navy Invitational.
